Build IT International was set up in 2005 to promote the construction of basic infrastructure in the poorer parts of Africa. We raise funds in the UK to support projects that improve facilities such as schools, create employment and adopt an environmentally sensitive approach. Our current fundraiser is moving on after successfully securing a number of initial grants to help get our programme established. We are now looking to replace her.

Overall Role: to raise funds to support the delivery of projects in Africa and the Charity’s overheads.

Key functions:

  • Trusts and Foundations: lead role
    1. research potential trusts
    2. prepare appropriate funding applications
    3. maintain contact with grant makers including reporting
    4. Our aim is to raise at least £75,000 p.a.
  • Other grants: as above for statutory donors.
  • Liaison with Partners and Projects: assistance with the design and development of projects particularly with respect to developing funding proposals and preparing progress reports.
  • Maintain accurate records on file and database

Requirements
There are no formal qualifications required for this post. The right person will be:

  • Enthusiastic about our work
  • Excellent written communicator
  • Well organised, thorough and hard working.
  • Independent but able to work in a small team

In terms of background, you will be educated to ‘A’ level and probably have a degree but this is not essential. Some experience of preparing grant applications will be an advantage but again not essential. Experience of project management and marketing would also be useful.

Benefits: This is a part-time post requiring 16-20 hours a week at a salary of £20,000 - £24,000 pro rata. It is based at our office in central Shrewsbury.
