A new report published by Build It reviews our approach to sustainable building and provides recommendations on the way forwards.
ISSB blocks are bricks made on site from a mixture of local earth, stone and a small amount of cement. The ingredients are compacted by a hand powered block press...it’s as simple as that! The blocks are made to slot together without needing mortar.
These blocks are used to build foundations and walls. Unlike traditional bricks, they are not fired, which saves a significant amount of energy. The soil blocks have excellent thermal properties, meaning buildings are naturally cool.
