A new report published by Build It reviews our approach to sustainable building and provides recommendations on the way forwards.
Trainees, at Makangwe Community School, who successfully completed their training last year, have come together to form a co-operative. Their first major project is a new teacher’s house for the school, which celebrated the opening of its new building exactly a year ago!
The trainees have been working hard securing their own contracts but are able to work together on larger local projects where everyone pulls together.
With the help of Build IT and a local builder they have organised themselves into teams to make best use of their different strengths. They have also received further training in reading the architectural drawings – an important skill!
The only trainee who is not involved on this project is Sabron who is working for the contractor at Nchute Health Clinic, where he has been overseeing the work of the new trainees and is doing a fantastic job!
When the house is complete there will be cause for further celebration as the Ministry of Education has agreed to send a trained teacher to the school. Great news!
I think the house is looking great so far! Tell us what you think.
Vicky.
