A new report published by Build It reviews our approach to sustainable building and provides recommendations on the way forwards.
Our Programme Director, Charity Lubingo, visited Butempa School last week to see first hand what progress had been made.
It is two years since building work was completed at the school and the classrooms were handed over to the local community. The community have continued to work together closely to ensure that the school is successful and have recruited five voluntary teachers. At Build IT, when all community buildings are finished the community take ownership, and Butempa community have been maintaining the school and developing the area, renovating old thatched houses near the school.
As promised, the Ministry of Education have been supporting Butempa School, since the new building was completed. They have assigned a headteacher, Mr. Moonga, to the school and have agreed to send three more trained teachers, who will be arriving soon.
It is great to see a school develop after all the building work is finished. The local community should be very proud of all their hard work and determination, which has helped their school go from strength to strength!
