Community is key at Nchute Health Clinic

Over 100 people took part in a community design workshop on the 21-24 January for the new Health post in rural Nchute, led by consultant RIBA architect and Build IT advisor Rob Fielding. Great progress was made and the concept drawings are now being prepared with a final design expected by the end of March.

One of the main points made by women was the need for greater privacy during consultations and in the small maternity unit. A space for family to use whilst visiting sick relatives was also proposed.

The local community in Nchute are working hard to prepare for the new Health Clinic, which will provide health care to over 2,500 people. The local population is expected to grow to around 10,000. Over the last few months they have crushed stones and collected river sand for the new building.
