A new report published by Build It reviews our approach to sustainable building and provides recommendations on the way forwards.
The building design has been finalised at Donata School for the Disabled in Mkushi. Build IT International and the local community, including the young people from the school; have worked with architect, Nicholas Phiri, to develop a site plan and unique classroom design for the children. Unlike the current school the building will incorporate design features such as wider doors, ramps, hand-rails, quiet space and good acoustics.
Currently the school operates from rented rooms, which they are being forced to leave. The local council has offered their support by donating land and the Ministry of Education has agreed to send a trained specialist teacher when the new building is completed.
Everyone at Donata School and Build IT are very excited about the project. The new building will have an invaluable benefit to the children and will create a safer, practical and more comfortable environment for learning.
