Last week, the brand new rural facility at Nchute held its first clinic. It has taken a while but the wait has definitely been worth it!
Things are almost finished at our Donata School project!
The roofing is now complete and it is now just the final finishing touches until the building is completed.
The Donata School is purpose-built for children with disabilities, incorporating specialist design features into our hexagonal school design.
Features such as wider doors, ramps, quiet space and good acoustics make the Donata School for the Disabled the only specialist school for children with disabilities for 100 miles.
The school provides free medical treatment, meals (every day) and stationery to each pupil. There are currently over 35 children between the ages of 6 to 15 attending the school, who have a wide range of impairments, including deafness, blindness, physical and mental disabilities.
The school is run by the inspirational Donata Kalanga, who is physically disabled herself. Donata saw the need to provide education, life skills, health care and good nutrition to children with disabilities in a caring and supportive environment.
The final touches will soon be finished and the building will be ready to use, we can’t wait and niether can Donata Kalanga! (pictured below).
