A new report published by Build It reviews our approach to sustainable building and provides recommendations on the way forwards.
Work on the new 3 classroom block at Kaoma has seen good progress in the last few weeks. After completing the first phase of this project (a two classroom block), this phase will add 150 school spaces! The new classes will add to the current community primary school, which performs very well and has an extremely high demand. This means even more children will be able to access basic primary education.
Work on the classrooms has gone well after a slow start, with 5 trainees from the local community learning building skills on site. The foundations for the building have now been completed and the walls - made from interlocking hydraform blocks - are about to be built. We expect the new classroom to be complete by the end of January 2012.
We're also thrilled to hear that 7 former trainees are now employed as labourers at the building site! They are now getting paid and gaining even more building experience. A big congratulations!
