A new report published by Build It reviews our approach to sustainable building and provides recommendations on the way forwards.
Aiming to train 15 locals in building skills, this project started in July and should finish in time to open the two new classrooms in February 2010.
Already they have learned to produce excellent quality soil blocks and will soon start to make roof tiles.
The school will be our third using our innovative Cool School design, with two new hexagonal class-rooms. The Ministry of Education will supply at least one new trained teacher once a house has been built.
Headmistress Miss Zulu, symbolically laid the first block and told us;
'The new school will be a blessing, it will help us to cope with so many children. Now we have over 200 but many more will come. Please allow me to thank everybody in the UK who is helping us.'
We are grateful to our supporters including the COINS Foundation for financing the new school at a basic cost of £26,000.
