A new report published by Build It reviews our approach to sustainable building and provides recommendations on the way forwards.
The project is on target to be completed by January in time for the new school year. This is largely down to the excellent team comprising Franco, the builder, former trainees Aron and Chola, and the 13 new trainees.
When Andrew Jowett, Director of Build IT, visited in October he found the soil block walls rising out of the ground and the team hard at work preparing the slab and making roof tiles. Water has been a problem at the project but this is now sorted with a pipe extension to the compound.
Andrew commented“ this is one of the poorest places I have ever visited in Zambia and the new community school is going to make a massive difference to opportunities for the many children here who are missing out. We are really proud of the quality work that Franco and his trainees are delivering”
Few residents of Chibolya have any source of regular income and most depend on making and selling charcoal. But there are building projects in nearby Mazabuka that need skilled labour.
