Chibolya Community School is located in a peri-urban compound outside Mazabuka in the Southern province. At present school provision in the area is wholly inadequate. There is only one government primary school in the area and there is and no secondary school, for a population of up to 10,000.
CEHO (Chibolya Education and Health Organisation), a local community group, set up a small pre-school in response to the lack of facilities. They currently run the school out of a rented beer hall, which is in poor condition. They have now secured 16 hectares of traditional land to build a new classroom block.
The school is supported by Zambia Orphans of AIDS (ZOA). Build IT International are working with ZOA and the local community to build the new school. The building will extend the current pre-school to primary level.
13 local men and women have been selected as trainees at the project. They will all undertake training on the project and sit their TEVETA trades tests on completion.
We are pleased to announce that former trainees Aaron Musukuma and Chola Mwewa have been hired on as skilled labourers at Chibolya. Aaron and Chola are currently overseeing the production of Interlocking Stabilised Soil Blocks and Parry Roof Tiles and are spliting the money earned between them. Well done to both!
