The school itself is thriving. The number of pupils has risen dramatically from 254 to 324. There are now 172 boys and 152 girls attending Kabaka Community School. A new paid and qualified teacher has now joined the teaching staff, Mr. Billica is a Kabaka resident with previous teaching experience.

The graduates trainees are also doing well, five have found work plastering another community school in the area and three others have found small building contracts. The female trainees haven’t found work as easily as their male counterparts. This is a common issue we face and we will work with the women from the group to ensure more post-training assistance and job opportunities are available to them.

The community has finished work on an orchard and vegetable garden. 65 fruit trees, tomatoes, peppers and carrots will not only generate income for the school through trading but will provide the children with free school meals.

The school building has become centre of the community. Some shops have been set up for trading and a lot of people have purchased plots of land close to the school. All of this investment by the community means that Kabaka is becoming known as a trading area, and a bus has also started to stop at the village.
