There is excitement in the air at Lupuka
There is real excitement amongst the community of Lupuka as their new school building begins to take shape.
The pupils, who are currently taught in a hot, unstable mud and stick structure, can’t wait to use their new classroom.

“My school has no desks for my books. I sit on bricks and hold my book in my hand. There are no walls so I hear the cows making noise and it is cold and wet in the rainy season. I cannot concentrate, a new classroom will be a big change.”
The 20 trainees have been working hard over the last month and have made great progress. The brickwork of the two new classrooms has been completed and the windows and door frames have been fitted.
Work will soon begin on the roof. We will be installing solar panels so that the school can be lit and used in the evenings – a first for this remote community.
Thanks to your support, the classroom block is now fully funded but we are still fundraising for latrines and a teachers’ house. By building dedicated accommodation for teachers we are able to guarantee that the Ministry of Education will send a trained teacher to the school for the first time. This will improve the quality of education that the community receive.
