One Day Freedom event
We were delighted to take part in the One Day Freedom event on 3 December in Lusaka, hosted by our partner Undikumbukire Project Zambia. This annual event on the juvenile justice system in Zambia embodies the hopes of young people in prison that “one day they will be free”.
The theme this year was ‘transformation’; recognising and celebrating the talents of the young people who have encountered the justice system.
The event is part of our Rise Again Project, generously funded by the European Union. We are working with UP Zambia on this project which aims to support juveniles in conflict with the law to successfully reintegrate back into society.
There were key remarks from special guests The Minister of Justice Hon. Mulambe Haimbe and EU Head of Political, Press and Information Bruno Hanses. There were also remarks from our Country Director Sughra Hussain and UP Zambia Executive Director Sara Larios.
Thank you to our young guests who shared their experiences through speeches, drama and music.
Through construction skills training, life skills, work placements and links to employment, the project is helping these young people to Rise Again. It means fresh hope and a second chance.
Thank you for your continued support – together we are #BuildingBrighterFutures in Zambia.
