Graduate success at Katombora School

72 young men at Katombora Reformatory School celebrated their graduation on 10 February 2022 having completed our Training into Work programme in 2021. We were delighted to present them with entry-level qualifications in Rough Carpentry and Brick & Block laying.

It was the fourth graduation ceremony hosted at the school as part of the Rise Again Project. This has been delivered in partnership with NGO UP Zambia, with generous funding from the European Union in Zambia.

The project aims to give the young individuals a second chance. Their new skills open up new opportunities to find work, and help reduce the risk of re-offending.

The event was graced by Ministry of Home Affairs & Internal Security permanent secretary Mr Joseph Akafumba and EU Head of Cooperation Mr Arnaud Borchard, among other dignitaries.

There was great coverage of this special event across Zambian media, including live coverage on Facebook by CIC press team

The event also celebrated the official opening of the toilet and shower block we built at the school in August 2021. The new block provides much needed additional facilities to help improve health and hygiene at the school.

Water is pumped from the Zambezi river and there are solar panels on the roof, which means that the new block is totally self-sufficient for its water and power.
