It’s full steam ahead on the construction of the maternity and infant health unit at Chisamba Rural Health Centre. This new facility will serve as a vital lifeline for surrounding communities.

We worked in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, clinic staff and patients to develop a bespoke design that is accessible, efficient and comfortable. It will help to create an environment where quality care can flourish for years to come.

Seventeen young people – 12 males and 5 females – enrolled onto our training programme to help us build this new facility for their community.

Trainee attendance has been affected by the harvest season, a crucial time for this rural farming community. The opportunity to earn some immediate money through harvesting has led some trainees to miss some lessons.

The trainees are learning under the guidance of our training team and contractor Izwanga Zambia Ltd. Despite challenges with attendance, the team have made good progress on the build:

Footings were poured. The foundation blockwork then helps provide a strong and stable base for the structure

With the foundations securely in place, the area was backfilled and compacted. This prepares the ground for the installation of the slab.

The concrete slab forms the floor of the new building. It was cast in sections and cured carefully to ensure strength and durability.

It’s fantastic to see the progress onsite. By creating a space where parents and children can access the care they need, we are building the foundations for a healthier and stronger community.
