A new student toilet block is being built at the Centre for Excellence to support the growing number of trainees learning on site.
The building demonstrates our commitment to sustainability with 7,000 Stabilised Soil Blocks (SSBs) made for the structure.
The innovative design incorporates natural lighting and rainwater harvesting, with grey water to be recycled for watering the gardens. There will be natural ventilation and solar power will be used for the lights.
Excavations completed, work began on foundation block work
External rendering completed
Concrete slab poured and dried, before first blocks of the superstructure were laid
Door and window frames installed
We have commissioned a team of graduates as contractors on this build.
From left to right: Contractors Albert (trained at CfE, 2016) and Vincent (trained at our project at Mukuyu Community School, 2019), Build It Senior Site Agent Ian and contractor Hamusankwa (trained at Mukuyu Community School, 2019)
The trio are acting as lead contractors and are doing a fantastic job leading a small team of fellow graduates. The graduates are benefiting from additional on the job training, including experience of building with SSBs.
We look forward to sharing more photos as the build progresses.
