We are delighted to share the latest news from Mwachisompola Primary School.
25 young trainees have been helping us build additional classrooms and latrines for the children at this busy school situated approximately 66km north of Lusaka.
The trainees were recruited from the local area, and joined our Training into Work programme in August 2023.
“It is really fantastic to see how the young people have progressed since they started their training,” said Kelvin Mwando, our Monitoring Evaluation and Communications Officer who led the recruitment of the trainees.
“Well done to all of them. They have demonstrated a high level of dedication and effort. It is very exciting to see how they take forward their new skills and confidence, and go forward to find work.”
23 of the trainees sat their TEVET trades test on 6 December 2023. They will get their results in February 2024.
Career development support session led by our Placement Co-ordinator Mildred Mwakamui, helping trainees through key next steps including writing CVs, applying for jobs and preparing for job interviews.
The build at Mwachisompola Primary School is being led by contractors Ian Chiteula and Bongani Munyenyembe.
Ian and Bongani worked as our Site Agents before going on to set up their own construction company; Izwanga Zambia Limited. They have hired some of our previous graduates to assist them with the build, and have now also retained four of the newly trained trainees to continue working on the project which is fantastic news.
Work has progressed steadily on site, despite some recent heavy rains.
The walls of the 4-classroom block have gone up. Doors and window frames have been installed.

The children will see their new classrooms taking shape when they return from the Christmas break. The team is currently working on the construction of the roof trusses for the classroom block.
The team is also building a latrine block for the children.
This will house one-cubicle plus urinals for boys on one side, and four-cubicles for girls on the other side. One of the female cubicles will have a dedicated wash space to help girls manage their periods, and support them to stay in education as they grow up.
Plus construction is also underway of a separate 2-cubicle latrine block for the teachers. Currently teachers have to walk 10-minutes to use the toilets in the local church.
These new facilities will make a huge difference to improving the health and education of children from this growing community.
