Four years after Build It International completed two hexagonal classrooms and a teachers’ house the school is going from strength to strength.

The Ministry of Education has provided qualified teaching staff to live in the house provided. Having trained staff at the school has had dramatic effect on the quality of education at Makangwe, especially now that lessons are held in fit-for-purpose classrooms. The result of our work is clear, pupils have been flocking to the school and enrolment has grown to over 500, an increase of 68%.

The government has taken notice of the transformation at Makangwe and is expanding the school further, building two new teachers’ houses and a new classroom block. We caught up with Makangwe head teacher Idah Muchinzi, who gave us a quick video tour of the school and the developments taking place:
