Construction continues at our new training centre, our Centre for Excellence, in Lusaka. It is estimated that Zambia needs around 17,000 new construction workers each year but very few school leavers are given the opportunity to gain the necessary skills to pursue this opportunity.
Our new centre will allow us to substantially expand our training programme; both in terms of the numbers of young trainees we can reach and the range of courses we can offer.
Several new buildings were constructed in 2017. The main work on Learning Plaza 2 was completed in December 2017. Final fittings are currently being completed ready for the building to be used from April 2018. This large facility, together with Learning Plaza 1, enables us to train up to 60 students at any one time and will expand the delivery of our new Fast Track courses at the centre.
A new toilet block has was completed. The block incorporates 6 x WC and a urinal, with local gum poles used for the screen walls.
2018 will see the construction of a large multifunction hall. The hall has an innovative design and will provide space for ‘high grade learning’. The hall will be available for industry relevant events as we continue to establish our new training centre at the heart of construction skills training in Zambia.
