Transforming healthcare: Chisamba Maternity and Infant Health Unit nears completion

We are delighted to share an update on the construction of the Maternity and Infant Health Unit at Chisamba Rural Health Centre, where the finish line is well and truly in sight!

This transformative project will help ensure women and children across Chisamba have access to essential, high-quality care in a purpose-built facility.

In November, the completion of the roof marked a significant milestone in the construction journey.ย December brought another wave of progress, with the first fixings for electrics and plumbing installed. The construction team also tackled the major task of plastering all interior and exterior walls.

The young trainees attached to this project sat their TEVETA exams on 4 December. They are eagerly awaiting their results. This marked the end of their training with us.

We are delighted that six trainees have been retained by the contractor to help complete the construction of the unit – a testament to their dedication and potential.

Construction continued with the installation of windows, together with painting and tiling.

Porcelain tiles are being laid in low-traffic areas, while a terrazzo floor finish is being applied in high-traffic areas, to ensure long-term durability.

While challenges such as power outages and heavy rains have caused some slight delays, the construction team remains focused and determined. Upcoming tasks include brick paving, laying the perimeter concrete apron and completing the septic tank and soakaway for the toilets.

We are excited to see this project so close to completion, and are grateful to everyone who has contributed to making this vision a reality.

Stay tuned for further updates as we prepare to open the doors to a brighter future for healthcare in Chisamba!
