Meet Elizabeth Bwalya
Elizabeth is 24 years old. After the death of her father, Elizabeth’s mother raised her and her nine older siblings single-handedly, often struggling to meet daily needs. Elizabeth’s mother sadly died in 2018.
Elizabeth joined our entry-level Painting course in spring 2019. Elizabeth thought that acquiring a new skill would help her raise enough money to further her education and improve her quality of life – and she was right.
After completing her training at the Centre for Excellence in May 2019, we placed Elizabeth with Matbros Applicators for her work placement.

Impressed by her performance, Matbros Applicators gave Elizabeth a job. With her wages, Elizabeth has been able to pay for her tuition fees and invest in a small piece of land.
Elizabeth stayed with Matbros until early February 2020 and has just moved to another contractor where she has negotiated herself a higher wage. Of the eighteen painters currently on site, Elizabeth is the only female.
Elizabeth said “My new job has motivated me to make more efforts in my work in order to reach my dreams.”
Together we are enabling and empowering young people to build themselves a brighter future.
