Balancing the gender equation in the construction industry starts with guiding the next generation. By showcasing diverse career paths, scholarships and employment opportunities, we can inspire and support the incoming workforce to explore and thrive in this dynamic field.

In partnership with the Government of Ireland and the Embassy of Ireland in Zambia, Build It visited Naboye Secondary School in Kafue district of Lusaka. The visit aimed to inspire pupils by showcasing the exciting and diverse career opportunities available in the construction industry – for both men and women.

Engineer and CEO of ABM Construction Ltd Kayinda Muchepa took part in the discussions, sharing her inspiring journey to success with 172 Grade 12 students.

Kayinda highlighted how women can thrive in the construction industry recounting her path to success.

“I did not have an easy life growing up, but I took advantages of every opportunity given to me and gave it my all – if you want to be successful, you must work hard,” Kayinda emphasised.

The session received enthusiastic feedback from both pupils and staff.

Naboye School Principal Mr. Coster Hauuluma expressed his support about the collaboration, highlighting how it complements Government efforts to empower girls. Mr Hauuluma committed to ongoing support for the initiative, aiming to inspire more girls to explore careers in construction.
