Update from our Chief Executive Andrew Jowett

30 April 2020.

I hope this message finds you and your family well during these challenging times.

In the short video below, I explain how we are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and taking action to ensure that Build It comes through this crisis fit to continue our vital work.

As of today, the number of confirmed cases in Zambia is thankfully low, but anxiety is understandably high with great concern around how the country will cope if the pandemic takes off.

But with challenges, comes the opportunity for innovation. Our Training Team is working on developing a distance learning programme to be delivered through electronic tablets. Trainees will use them to follow lessons at home, and the tablets will also promote key messages to help keep trainees and their families safe.

Many businesses in Zambia continue to operate as usual, and construction work progresses at the Centre for Excellence and at Chitukuko Community School, where the second teachers house is very nearly finished. We have implemented a number of precautions on our worksites to ensure the safety of our workers.

We are also considering how we can help the wider community, especially the schools we have strong links with. More on this in future updates and on our special COVID-19 page on our website.

Thank you for all your messages and your continuing support.

Stay safe and stay well

Best wishes

Andrew
