Construction work at Miswa School started in September 2025, and we’re delighted to share that the finish line is now firmly in sight.

The new buildings have taken shape, and will transform the learning environment for pupils and teachers alike.

From foundations to finishing touches

The new classroom block houses three classrooms, alongside a multi-purpose library. This will support literacy programmes and eventually host the schools’ first ICT lessons. The block also incorporates a staff room, and a head teacher’s office complete with secure storage for exam papers. There is now a latrine block for pupils, and a separate smaller one for the teachers.

We partnered with Izwanga Zambia Limited on the construction, having successfully completed several of our community build projects. Guided by our Training Team, our young trainees have supported the work onsite gaining valuable real-life experience on a build project.

With the classroom walls finished before Christmas, the new year kicked off with the team focusing on construction of the classroom roof – bringing the project a major step closer to completion.

The generous veranda runs the length of the building. It will cast much‑needed shade during the summer months, and protection from the rain during the winter.

Installation of reflective aluminium foil insulation. This is used to reduce heat gain, and also act as a vapour barrier. This helps to create a more comfortable learning environment.

At the back of the Head Teacher’s office is a reinforced strong room – a secure space for storing exam papers and other confidential materials. With this in place, Miswa School is on its way to becoming an official examination centre, meaning children will soon be able to sit their exams at their own school.

The old latrines were completely inadequate.

Finishing touches are being applied to the new pupil latrine block, with separate section for boys and for girls. Safe, private latrines help girls to manage their periods, supporting them to stay in education.
