It is exciting to see construction of the office at the Centre for Excellence approaching the final stages. Progress on this build has been slower than anticipated, impacted by the pandemic and a reduced workforce onsite.
The new office means that Build It staff currently based in the centre of Lusaka, will be able to join the rest of the team at the Centre on the northern edge of the city.
The office is our first ever double-storey building. On the ground floor is a reception area, open plan office space and meeting room. The first floor has an office for the Country Director, more open plan office space and small meeting room.
The roof has been installed and internal walls plastered. All the electrics are in, and hot water and toilets have been plumbed.
Energy efficient glazing will help ensure a comfortable internal office environment all year round. These windows have views towards the Lusumpuko Hall and the roundabout feature.
Plastering completed on the upper floor. The ceiling is currently being boarded.
Most of the walls have been skimmed, with some getting their first coat of paint
The building has been positioned to face north east to ensure there is plenty of natural light.
Work has started on the office’s ‘green’ veranda. Local gum poles will be used to create the wooden structure on one side of the building. Plants and creepers will be planted, and overtime will help to provide shade for a seating area, as well as helping to increase biodiversity on site.
