Pupils have written letters to thank everyone who has supported their new school.

20 trainee builders selected from the local community are constructing a new classroom, latrine, teachers’ house and water pump in remote Katuba community.

Over 135 pupils are currently enrolled at the school. The building currently used as a classroom is not adequate for teaching and some pupils are taught outside. The children are excited to see their new school rise up from the ground. This is what they had to say about their new school:

“We can see the school being built. It is amazing we are really thankful for the classroom because in the rainy season we used to get soaked in the classes we had.” Exlidah, Grade 5

“I am so happy because we used concrete blocks in place of desks. We suffer from shifting the blocks to our place of learning outside. Thank you.” Francis, Grade 6

The trainee builders are growing in confidence and experience every day and the standard of their work has been good.

They will sit their bricklaying trade exams this month. If they pass they will receive a qualification, a toolkit and access to post-training activities and workshops. This will help them secure paid employment in construction.
