The trainees working on the Multi-functional Hall at our Centre for Excellence have made fantastic progress which is great news as the start of the rainy season closes in.
Our Centre for Excellence is situated on a two hectare site next to the Great North Road on the northern edge of Lusaka.
When completed the site will comprise of a series of learning plazas, the multi-function hall, practice spaces, administration and storage spaces, and demonstration houses. Some of the site is already operational, and the rest continues to be developed in phases up to 2021.
The Multi-functional Hall has a prominent location on the site and has a unique design, with the aim of attracting interest from Great North Road. The hall will provide flexible learning space for training and workshops, as well as space for conferences and events.
The walls of the hall have been constructed and recent work has focused on its innovative roof design. The trainees have been expanding their skill set learning about rough carpentry and the construction of the roof trusses.
The elevated single pitch roof will allow hot air to escape and help keep the building cool in summer. The large verandah will create shade and provide welcome relief from the sun.
Further development at the Centre for Excellence is at our heart of our ambition to significantly increase the number of young people we can train, and the types of construction courses we can offer.
