Trainees Learn Carpentry Skills

Thanks to your support of our Training into Work programme, we have been able to introduce a carpentry skills module.

5 trainees at Lupuka and 5 trainees at Chibolya have been learning new skills as they work on the roof for the new school. We are rolling out the carpentry skills module at all out projects this year, giving the trainees the opportunity to develop the skills they need to have a successful career in the construction industry. The training includes a mix of theory and practical work, including making formwork and roof trusses.

Precious is one of the trainees learning the new skills, including carpentry, on site at Lupuka. She was born in the community and attended the makeshift school that she is working so hard to improve.

“I found it hard to concentrate when I was at the school. I am proud to be building a new classroom for the children here. They will get to learn in a good building and do well at school.”

Precious will take her TEVETA trades exams in December, along with 66 other Build It trainees. We will keep you up to date with the group’s progress as work on this year’s projects continues.
