The official opening ceremony was held on Friday 8th May 2015 and was organized by the community.

The event was attended by hundreds of community members, pupils, teachers and dignitaries including; His Royal Highness Chief Nkole, the local MP, Mr Musonda, and representatives from local government and the education board.

Celebrations included prayers, singing, and speeches. One of the pupils, Audrey Mweemba, read a poem she had written for the occasion entitled ‘A Dream Come True’:

A dream, a dream; I can’t believe my eyes, to see myself learning in a classroom, I can’t believe myself, sitting on nice desks. Not long ago, this place was a forest and a bush, only birds used to stay here, not long ago we used to learn under a tree, sitting on blocks.
Thank you Build It International and Ministry of Education for making our dreams come true. Thank you very much.

Graduation ceremonies were also held for the 2014 trainees in the Kapiri District. It was a proud moment for the graduates who, in front of friends and family, collected their certificates for passing their bricklaying exams and became qualified builders.
We look forward to supporting them to find work as part of our Training to Work programme, as ever we will keep you up to date with their progress.
