Thanks to your generous support, construction work is underway at Miswa School in rural Zambia.

Learning at Miswa School has been a daily struggle. With no proper classrooms or latrines, 265 young pupils and four volunteer teachers have endured very difficult conditions. All this will change.

Breaking ground on a new chapter

Construction began in September 2025. Our team has been working closely with representatives from the school and the local community on plans for the project.

Work has started on the new classroom block, which will house three classrooms to create a safer, more comfortable space for learning.

There will be a multi-purpose library to support literacy programmes, and which may later host ICT lessons. The new block will also include a staff room and a Headteacher’s office, with secure storage for exam papers. Contractor Izwanga Zambia Limited is supporting the build at Miswa School.

Separate latrines for pupils and teachers are being built to improve health and wellbeing across the school. Having private, hygienic facilities is vital in helping girls to manage their periods and support them to stay in education as they grow up.

Until recently, the community relied on one borehole that only produced a trickle. Now, a new borehole provides reliable access to safe, clean water for the school and the wider community.

We commissioned Gift, known locally as “The Lady Borehole Driller”, to install the borehole. She’s one of Zambia’s few female engineers in this field, and it was inspiring for local residents to see her in action.

Twenty-five young people from the area have joined us on the project. They are gaining valuable construction skills and work experience, while helping to build a brighter future for their community.
