The Mwala community now have access to a safe, reliable water source, thanks to your support.

The pump will make a huge difference to the children and pupils at the school, and the wider community. Mwala School’s head teacher, Mrs. Muntengu (pictured above), is very happy to have a water pump at the school.

“Thank you so much for providing the school with clean water. We as a school are happy. The children now have clean water and won’t need to use the well which is unsafe and has debris in it.”

She is also looking forward to the completion of the new latrine block which will be built by six members of the Mwala community. They will learn basic building skills as part of our Training into Work programme.

The trainees have just begun two weeks of intensive basic training with our dedicated training manager. They are very keen and have been arriving for work at 6:30 AM each day!

It will be the first time that the 500 pupils at the school will have access to proper sanitation. As well as the obvious benefits, toilets and hand-washing facilities also encourage more girls to stay at school, having a positive impact on their futures.

We are really happy to have started to work with the Mwala community, but we want to be able to do more. Next year we plan to build three new classrooms, and if we raise enough, we’d also like to build more latrines for this overcrowded school.
