The Best Kept School Competition is held annually and is open to all schools built by Build It trainees. Entrants are judged on two main categories: maintenance of the classroom building and the development of the school grounds.

The full results for 2014 are:
1st Place – Kaoma Community School
2nd Place – Mikumbila Community School
3rd Place – Donata School for Disabled Children

A total of seven schools entered the competition, with the top three receiving a certificate and new learning materials including books, wall charts and sports equipment.

The teachers and pupils at Mikumbila (pictured) were very proud of their second place, and delighted with the equipment they won. Since the school opened in 2010, the teachers and pupils have planted flowerbeds, trees and a vegetable garden. The school now grows corn to generate an income for the school – in 2014 year they had an impressive 5 sacks of corn to sell.

All the communities we have worked with are keen to be crowned the Best Kept School for 2015! There will be tough competition with new schools at Lupuka, Kabaka and Shipungu eligible to enter.
