Katuba has clean water for the first time

A new water pump has been installed in the remote community of Katuba. This is the first time that the community with over 1,000 people have had access to a clean and safe water source.

Installing a new water pump can bring life changing benefits, clean water reduces the risk of getting water-related disease, leading to a healthier community.

The new access to clean water in the village will also have an economic benefit. The distance and time it takes to collect water has been dramatically reduced, helping children to spend more time at school and adults to be productive. The World Health Organisation estimates a return of $3-$34 for every $1 spent on providing safe drinking water.

Meanwhile work continues at Katuba as 20 trainees are currently building the walls of a new classroom block, teachers’ housing and latrines. The pupils can’t wait for the new structures to be completed, there are currently 135 pupils at the school, but many children do not come to lessons as the current facilities are in such a bad condition.
