Hope Community School, 2015

Previously there was:

Hope is located in Kanyama, Lusaka, Zambia The school was originally built through a joint initiative between the Japanese and Zambian Governments. Hope International Zambia has been working with the school since 2009 and now teaches over 500 pupils. In 2015 Build It provided construction skills training to 20 men and women in the community. They all passed their exams.

With your support: 

We worked with partner organisation Hope Worldwide Zambia to build a new classroom block, sewing workshop and computer lab for this Community school in Lusaka. The training and construction was completed in 2015.

Unemployed men and women from Kanyama Compound and neighbouring Chibolya Compound were selected to join our training programme. The trainees learnt on site whilst the new building was constructed. In August 2015 they took their nationally recognised building exams. They all passed.

Since we left…

With the construction of the new classroom block the community school was able to enrol an additional 122 pupils (from 508 to 630 pupils

94% of male and 81% of female pupils pass their grade seven exams. These pass rates drop drastically to 33% and 32% for male and female pupils respectively.
