Twenty trainees are in the middle of their basic skills training at Chibolya Community School.

The 10 male and 10 female trainee builders have taken part in an intensive basic skills course and are now getting stuck in to life on a building site.

This is the second time we have worked with the Chibolya community, and the new group of trainees are working alongside a construction contractor to build a new classroom and kitchen block for the growing community school that we built in 2011.

The trainees are currently learning how to fit window and door frames. Rosemary, a graduate trainee who learnt her skills when we built the first classroom at Chibolya, knows how useful these skills can be. She has recently fitted a door frame to her own house:

“I was so happy that I could do this for myself and not have to pay for it to be done. My neighbours were surprised I had the skills to improve my home”.

This year we have expanded our training to include two new modules – rough carpentry and painting. This will allow our trainees to learn a wider range of skills that they can use to help them secure further work in the construction sector.
