Walls, and excitement, have been rising this month as our community trainees continue making great progress on the construction of new classrooms at Zambezi Sawmills Community School.

The classroom block will provided desperately needed learning space for this growing school, with three new classrooms plus one dedicated computer classroom.

The trainees help to lay the concrete slab of the classroom block. It is kept damp with plastic sheeting. It is important that the concrete does not dry out too quickly as it hardens.

Mike, along with fellow Build It graduates Emmanuel and Benson, are the contractors for this build following successful work at Libuyu Health Centre and Light of Hope Community School.

We were delighted to be joined by Livingstone District Education Board Secretary Mr Aiden Kambunga to lay the cornerstone for the classroom block. This is considered the most important stone in the building, with all the other stones laid in reference to this first cornerstone.

Trainees learning about construction of the superstructure under the tutelage of Build It trainer Daniel Simuntala. The trainees will be sitting their TEVETA trade exam in December.

After weeks of preparation, it’s fantastic to see the walls going up so quickly!

This project is currently on track to be completed by March 2023, and we look forward to sharing more news soon.
